Collection: High Temperature Masking Tape
Compare high temperature masking tape and die-cut dots for powder coating, painting, anodizing, and electronics manufacturing. Start with the process temperature, time at temperature, surface, and mask shape, then check the individual product specifications before choosing a tape.
Choose a masking material and format
-
Polyester Powder Coating Tape: silicone-adhesive roll tape for powder coating masking. The listed operating range is -73°C to 200°C, with a 2 mil backing and 3.5 mil total thickness. Rolls suit continuous edges and areas cut to length.
-
Polyester Masking Die Cuts: pre-cut polyester masks with silicone adhesive for repeated circular masking. The product lists a 400°F / 204°C temperature rating and 3.5 mil total thickness. Do not assume the roll tape and die cuts have identical ratings.
-
Polyimide Dots: pre-cut masks with a 1 mil polyimide carrier and 1.5 mil silicone adhesive, totaling 2.5 mil. The listed temperature rating is 500°F / 260°C. The product page describes PCB conformal-coating and soldering masking applications.
-
Kapton Polyimide Tape: a roll-format polyimide option. Confirm the current adhesive specification and temperature/dwell limit for the selected roll before using it in a production process; do not transfer the dot product's rating to the roll.
-
Glass Cloth Tape: fiberglass-backed tape with a 5 mil backing and 7 mil total thickness. Its listed operating range is -73°C to 260°C. Compare its thicker cloth construction with film tape when assessing surface conformity and masking-edge requirements.
-
Solder Wave Masking Dots: crepe-paper dots with natural rubber/resin adhesive, 7.5 mil total thickness, and a listed 325°F / 163°C rating. The product description lists low-temperature powder coating and wet spray and advises against outdoor exposure. Confirm suitability for the actual process rather than relying on the product name.
Temperature rating is only one selection factor
The figures above are the ratings listed on the linked product pages, not a guarantee for every dwell time or substrate. A backing's heat resistance does not by itself establish the adhesive's usable temperature or clean-removal performance. Request the current technical data for the exact product, including exposure duration and removal conditions.
Before production, test the full heating and cooling cycle on the actual surface. Check edge lift, coating bleed, adhesion, and residue after removal. Include any cleaning chemicals and repeated heat cycles in the trial.
